My Top 5 Children's Picture Books

Hello, fellow dreamers!💫

Welcome to my little nook where I share the picture books that light up my days. From the touching tales of The Memory Tree to the lively rhythms of Granny Loves to Dance, each story is a cherished journey.

Here my top 5 of my favorite children’s picture books:

1. The Weaver

Genre: Fiction, Animal, Adventure

Author: Qian Shi

Illustrator: Qian Shi

In this beautifully illustrated book, we meet Stanley, a spider with a knack for collecting precious things on his web. Unlike other spiders, Stanley doesn’t collect insects; instead, he gathers seeds, leaves, and other precious things to decorate his web. But when a storm washes away his treasures, Stanley finds a creative way to cope with his loss, weaving a new story into the threads of his web.

The book is praised for its emotional depth, handling the theme of loss with a gentle touch that is accessible to children.

2. Granny Loves to Dance

Deskripsi Alternatif

Genre: Fiction, Family

Author: Avianti Armand

Illustrator: Nabilla Adani

A heartwarming bilingual (English and Indonesian) story that introduces children to Alzheimer’s disease through the story of a grandmother who retains her love for dance even as her memories fade.

This bilingual book not only entertains but also educates young readers about Alzheimer’s, encouraging empathy and understanding for those affected by it.

It’s a beautiful reminder of the power of love and the arts in connecting us, even when memories begin to fade.

3. The Memory Tree

Genre: Fiction, Animals, Loss

Author: Britta Teckentrup

Illustrator: Britta Teckentrup

This story is a touching tale that delves into the themes of loss, memory, and enduring bonds.

The story follows the life of a fox who, after a long and happy existence, finds his final resting place in his favorite forest clearing. As his friends gather around, they share stories of the cherished moments they spent with him. With each shared memory, a tree begins to grow, symbolizing the everlasting impact of the fox’s life.

It’s a beautiful narrative that helps children understand the concept of loss and the importance of memories in a gentle and reassuring way.

4. Olive Marshmallow

Genre: Fiction, Family, Siblings

Author: Katie Saunders

Illustrator: Katie Saunders

It’s a sweet and humorous picture book that tells the story of a new brother adjusting to the arrival of his baby sister.

This book tells the story of Archie, who is about to become a big brother. As he watches his mommy’s tummy grow and her office turn pink, he’s not sure what to expect. But when Olive arrives, she brings a change that is as delightful as a marshmallow.

This book is indeed a wonderful choice for children who are about to welcome a new sibling into their family. The story can help them understand and prepare for the new addition to the family, making it a great read for families in such a transition.

5. Zoo

Winner of the Kate Greenaway Medal, this book takes us on a thought-provoking trip to the zoo with a family. Through Browne’s masterful illustrations, we explore the real and surreal, leaving us with reflections on family and our relationship with nature.

The book uses these different views to make us think about our relationship with animals and nature.

I hope they inspire you as much as they do me. Until our next read, keep the magic of stories alive in your heart. Let me know in the comments about your favorite children’s picture books!🧚🏻‍♀️🐛
